New members
A new GIN club member gets added to the web site with simply his email entered. WordPress will automatically create an impossibly long password and send the member an email suggesting he logs in and changes his password. Check in “junk” or “spam” if you don’t find the email.
Ideally the member should then log-in to the system and complete entry of his personal information such as phone numbers and address. He can also decide what activities he wants to join and sign up for them. Click here to see the list of activities, then click here to see how to sign up for activities.
A few members will find the above rather daunting. In this case simply send the information in an email to Mark Watts and I’ll enter it for you.
Existing members (there are 2 ways of using the site)
Basic use
Any member can simply ignore the suggested password and use the link to the site to consult the list of members, the distribution lists, the calendar of events or the blog. No password is needed to view any of this information. This is illustrated below.
Click on: Who are we? to see the list of activities with descriptions.
Calendar of Events shows all scheduled events
Member Details gives the names, email addresses, phone numbers and physical addresses of all members. It also shows this information by activity. Also which members are signed up for each activity and the activity coordinators.
Distribution Lists has a distribution list of all members and one for each activity. This can then be directly copied into the address space of an email. Instructions are included.
The Blog contains entries by any member. Usually a summary of an event. Every member can add to the Blog but must be logged-in first.
The User Guide shows step by step instructions for many of the things you may want to do in the web site, including logging in, creating a blog entry, signing up to an activity, creating a calendar event … See below.
More adventurous use, see How To Page
Any member can also log-in to the system and then has the ability to
- Change his profile, including:
- Change his password
- Add phone numbers and physical address (useful so other members can more easily contact you)
- Change his email address (if required)
- Add posts to the blog
- Edit existing posts he has already added
- Define what activities he wants to sign up for (get onto the distribution lists for these activities)
- Create calendar events or edit or delete events he has already created (not those created by others)
The How To page explains how to log-in and perform any of these edits.
If any member feels unable to make these edits himself he should contact Mark Watts and I will make them for him or, better still, show him how to do it.
Personal data
Naturally the personal data you enter is stored in the system, this is explained in the Data Protection page.
